Meds could expose you to much higher Covid 19 risk

Since our last newsletter the world has changed dramatically! Who would have ever thought we would see so many countries on 'lockdown'. There have been jokes about the rates of divorce going up as people find themselves in small places facing the family day-in-and-day-out without the distraction of holiday activities.. But thankfully, they have been outnumbered by the stories of how familys' are speaking to each other, playing board games, discussing books they are reading, learning new skills.. like how to play an instrument, garden and cook.

Speaking of which - we have filmed our first "How To Video" which should be edited and out by next week. This one shows you how easy it is to cook Polenta and gives you several suggestions of how to serve it, sweet, savoury - with beans, then part 2 as chips or polenta pizza!

So Subscribe today so you don't miss out on having fun with healthy food! It free, its in your home and can keep you growing & learning how easy it is to make healthy food.

It is yellowish-brown, hard, brittle, aromatic, and opaque to translucent [Wiki]) and flavoured with organic spearmint oil. It comes in a refillable glass container with a metal cap dispenser and comes in a compostable craft paper box. Our 2x30 metre refills come in their own compostable craft paper packaging, meaning that you do not need to buy a new glass every time you need more floss!

Covid 19 Virus

Medication could predispose you towards contracting the Covid 19 Virus

On a more serious note.. I had noticed that the reports on the mainstream news coming in from several countries especially Italy stated that 99% of the people who died from Covid19 had an average age of 79 years and all of the 99% had previously existing health conditions, mainly high blood pressure, then diabetes, then heart disease.  Over the years of working with people with these conditions, I noticed a trend that people tacking meds for high blood pressure had a strong chance of developing diabetes and those who developed diabetes had a strong chance of developing heart disease.  So when I sat down with them and looked at their diets, they were all consuming animal products from dairy & eggs to fish, chicken and meat. Mark's mother followed this same progression and then passed away in her 60's. First the blood pressure meds, then 10 years later diabetes, then 5 years later heart issues. Having researched the side effects of these meds, it was clear that while the symptoms where being treated the health of the people using these meds seemed to deteriorate.

Mark had high blood pressure at 19 - it was so bad that when he had to have a medical before completing his military service, he was considered uninsurable as his BP was 160 over 110. Nearly 50 years later his BP is 100 over 75 on a very hot day after ride the Cape Cycle Tour and being knocked off his bicycle.

The paramedics who attended to him, where worried that his BP was a bit low - that is until I told them he was vegan. At which point they said that explains it, vegans have the lowest BP. Now if they knew that - why don't doctors? Instead they prescribe drugs, which now appear to create a greater chance of being badly affected by Covid 19 plus several other side effects like diabetes and heart disease and even erectile dysfunction (read the insert!)

Research published a few days ago in the New England Journal Of Medicine on 30 March 2020 implicates blood pressure meds in a greater likelihood of contracting Covert 19.

The renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) is an elegant cascade of vasoactive peptides that orchestrate key processes in human physiology. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 1 (SARS-CoV-1) and SARS-CoV-2, which have been responsible for the SARS epidemic in 2002 to 2004 and for the more recent coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, respectively, interface with the RAAS through angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), an enzyme that physiologically counters RAAS activation but also functions as a receptor for both SARS viruses.1,2 The interaction between the SARS viruses and ACE2 has been proposed as a potential factor in their infectivity,3,4 and there are concerns about the use of RAAS inhibitors that may alter ACE2 and whether variation in ACE2 expression may be in part responsible for disease virulence in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.5-8 Indeed, some media sources and health systems have recently called for the discontinuation of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs), both prophylactically and in the context of suspected Covid-19.

Initial reports5-8 have called attention to the potential overrepresentation of hypertension among patients with Covid-19. In the largest of several case series from China that have been released during the Covid-19 pandemic (Table S1 in the Supplementary Appendix, available with the full text of this article at, hypertension was the most frequent coexisting condition in 1099 patients.

In other words the most common pre-existing health issue in people who contract Covid-19 is high blood pressure.

So how do you get your blood pressure down without meds?

This is pretty easy if you follow a whole-food plant based diet and healthy lifestyle

the following can increase blood pressure

Animal products of all kinds, from milk to steak to fish as they contain high levels of a fatty acids known as arachidonic acid. The function of the fatty acid is to increase blood pressure & inflammation - it is clear then why a complete whole food plant based diet will result in a drop in blood pressure and this will be within a week or two.

Caffeine - in coffee, tea, green tea, colas, chocolates including organic cacao etc  - can increase blood pressure - change to caffeine-free teas, malted carob, sparkling fruit juices and carob bars.

Stress can increase blood pressure - so make sure you exercise - preferably outdoors (on the verandah if you are lock down in an apartment or at worst in front of an open window - prayer and meditation are proven to decrease stress. Read inspiring books so that you have good things to meditate on.

Exercise and the effect on your immune system

Being in isolation without access to gyms and sports clubs should not mean people stop exercising, according to a new study from researchers at the University of Bath. Keeping up regular, daily exercise at a time when much of the world is going into isolation will play an important role in helping to maintain a healthy immune and endocrine system. Go online and find a "lockdown" exercise program, use a mini trampoline, a skipping rope or haul out your grandfather's book on the Canadian Airforce exercises.

The analysis, published in the international journal Exercise Immunology Review, involving leading physiologists Dr James Turner and Dr John Campbell from the University of Bath's Department for Health, considers the effect of exercise on our immune function.

Over the last four decades, many studies have investigated how exercise affects the immune system. It is widely agreed that regular moderate intensity exercise is beneficial for immunity, but a view held by some is that more arduous exercise can suppress immune function, leading to an 'open-window' of heightened infection risk in the hours and days following exercise.

In a benchmark study in 2018, this 'open window' hypothesis was challenged by Dr Campbell and Dr Turner. They reported in a review article that the theory was not well supported by scientific evidence, summarising that there is limited reliable evidence that exercise suppresses immunity, concluding instead that exercise is beneficial for immune function.

They say that, in the short term, exercise can help the immune system find and deal with pathogens, and in the long term, regular exercise slows down changes that happen to the immune system with ageing, therefore reducing the risk of infections.

Best of luck!
